In 1985, the China Institute in America launched an exhibition in The China House Gallery of bamboo lacquer baskets. Lenders sent items from across the country creating a comprehensive retrospective. An introduction is provided by James C. Y. Watt whose erudite text also accompanies the photos (black and white). The items range from the Xia Period to the end of the Qing (1911). A chronology, map and bibliography are included, as is a list of characters.
