A Chorus Of Colors highlights the pioneering efforts of three important collectors of Chinese glass, Mr. and Mrs. Barney Dagan, Dr. Alan Feen and Walter and Phyllis Shorenstein. Unlike the fields of bronzes, ceramics, and jades, which have many enthusiastic devotees around the world, Chinese glass has been under-appreciated by the aficionado of Chinese art, and in some instances, misunderstood. However, scholarly interest in the subject is rising. conservators are now able to devise scientific tests that will distinguish Chinese glass from specimens of foreign manufacture, and the archaeological digs in China have yielded a wealth of new specimens to document the history of the craft of China. Consequently, attention to glass in museum exhibition and in publications, both in Chinese and western languages, has increased.

A Chorus Of Colors is a well-done exhibition catalog that is prefaced by an excellent essay - Chinese Glass and the West by Donald Rabiner. The glass is the main attraction, and 103 pieces are presented in exquisite color photographs. Illuminated commentary accompanies each piece as well as the typical attributions and dating. The range of the type of glass is impressive. Most collectors will find uncanny parallels with many Western glass producers. I recommend this book highly to anyone who has a good grasp of Western glass and wishes to expand their knowledge and appreciation to the glass of China.
