Tea tiles are sometimes called "trivets" and in Scotland, one will hear the term "teapot stand". Tea trivets were made as far back as the 1700s, these being made mostly of iron. Whatever the name, thse dainty (and sometimes not) trivets are foundn holding items other than a teapot. Whatever, their use, the porcelain trivet is becoming more difficult to find as one browses around the antique shop.
"Porcelain & Pottery Tea Tiles" pictures in color over 125 of these plates. Examples of most marks are shown, either in drawings or color photos. An explanation of the English diamond marking system is provided, as is an extensive list of marks. Prices, though now quite dated, are provided in an endpage.
