If so, there is good news. Gordon's Art Reference has published its hefty Davenport's Art Reference & Price Guide in database format and has made it available in a quick and easy to use CD-ROM. As it has for years, Davenport's remains the first place to research. It includes 320,000 entries, with thousands of artists not listed elsewhere, with pricing on oils, watercolors, drawings, sculpture, etc. Over 30 major art reference books are cross-referenced.
And now it is in an easy to use electronic format. I rarely use my book now that I have the CD-ROM. I can find an artist and print out an artist report with all the information that is in the book in just seconds.
I can also search the Davenport's in ways that were never before practical. For example, I have an indecipherable signature and all I can make out is that the first name ends with th and the second ends with dt. I search *th *dt and am quickly presented with the following

I check off the names that interest me, hit the report button and I have a nice printable list in HTML which I can copy and paste into an email.
If I want to find artists from Galesburg Illinois, I can do a free text search using Galesburg.
