Extreme Restoration is a comprehensive guide to the preservation and restoration of Americas antique clocks.

As author T.E. Temple became more deeply involved in restoring antique American clocks he found a severe lack of information regarding many of the techniques utilized in their manufacture. Gilding for clock work often involved adding embossed rings around the circumference. How was that done? The faux tortoise shell finish seen on the columns of many shelf clocks is beautiful showing true depth. How was that created and how is it repaired? The rosewood grain on the sides of many clocks is actually a faux finish painted on a plain veneer. How can that be repaired or duplicated? The number of questions continued to pile up as Mr. Temple strived to improve the quality and authenticity of each restoration. Thus began a long and ongoing research and experimentation project that came to be known as Extreme Restoration.

As it currently stands, Extreme Restoration, an electronic book available here on CD-ROM, is over 700 pages in length. Fully illustrated to the finest detail, it provides the kind of detailed step-by-step information the restorer with average shop skills needs to restore antique American clocks successfully. Click on the sample pages in the images below to see how well this information is presented. Multiply by 700 and you can clearly see how invaluable a reference such as this would be to anyone working with antique American clocks can be.

Extreme Restoration is produced in an electronic (e-book) format on CD-ROM. This provides a number of unique advantages over traditional paper. Foremost of which, topics are electronically linked to other sections of the book that relate to the materials at hand. Suppliers and outside materials at websites throughout the Internet can be accessed almost instantaneously. Pages can be printed out on an as needed basis and if the printouts become stained or have your notes and doodles on them, a clean printout is just a click away. Information can be readily found within the book through the advanced search capabilities of Adobe Reader which is included with the book disk. Pictures can be readily enlarged through the zoom feature of Adobe Reader.
